Letter ClipartDear Chester Educational Community,

We received notification this morning that a staff member has tested positive with COVID-19. This staff member was last in the building yesterday. Close contacts have been notified of the possible exposure and following protocol as prescribed by the CDC and NHDHHS they were asked to move immediately into quarantine. We will continue to monitor this situation moving forward.

A parent also made us aware of a Chester Academy student testing positive. This youngster has been working remotely, so there has been no school exposure.

The recent Pinkerton Academy outbreak is being monitored closely with regard to ties to Chester Academy. Dr. Powers and I are in contact almost daily with regard to sibling exposures, transportation exposures, etc. Pinkerton Academy is currently in full remote status at the direction of CDC and NHDHHS.

On February 3rd, I will be making a recommendation to the Chester School Board to revise the school calendar. We are scheduled to be in full remote for the week of February 15th-19th. I will be recommending to change that full remote week to the week of March 1st – 5th. Hopefully, this change will mitigate some of the issues regarding quarantining of students and staff should they be traveling outside of New England during the school vacation week. It will also accommodate our preparation of the gym and cafeteria for the School District meeting on March 2nd.

The School Reopening Committee will reconvene during the week of February 8th, in order to review the plan and specifically the metrics used to determine the appropriate model of instruction to employ and if and how the model can be changed. You may review the plan here. The members of the Committee are listed on page 4 and the metrics for model determination are listed on pages 9 and 10.

We look forward to our student and staff member having quick recoveries. We are appreciative of our staff members who are quarantining, for their willingness to continue to work remotely when that is possible. In addition, we are thankful to our parents and guardians for your continued efforts in supporting your students. We know this is challenging and at times very difficult! Hang in there!

We encourage all those in our educational community to continue to be vigilant with regard to mitigation strategies. Please continue to wear masks, keep 6 feet of physical distance when out and about, and practice good hand hygiene.

Should you have specific questions about the status of our school operations, or any specific concerns for your student, please do not hesitate to contact me or Principal Lacroix. We will continue to do our best to provide you with up to date information.
