Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we wind down the current school year and finish remote learning, many of us are already thinking and planning for school reopening in late August. Candidly, we have more questions than answers right now. For example, will the Governor allow us to reopen in a face to face manner? Will some of us still be involved in remote learning? Will social distancing rules still be in effect? Will staff and students be required to wear masks while in school and on buses? How do we protect our children and staff members who are at higher risk for severe illness? These and many more questions will need to be addressed before our first school day on August 31st.

In the coming weeks and months, the Chester School Board and the School Administration will be meeting often to review any state and federal guidance which may be provided on reopening. We will also be working with Pinkerton Academy and the other sending school districts to coordinate our efforts. As we consider local issues that may impact our Chester Academy families and students we anticipate that we will be reaching out to the Chester Academy community via one or more surveys for input and guidance. For this reason, we would ask that you be sure to keep an eye on communication from Chester Academy throughout the coming summer break.

The NH Department of Education (NHDOE) has formed a School Transition Reopening and Redesign Taskforce (STRRT). The Task Force will be developing recommendations and guidance for schools for the 2020-21 school year.

The STRRT has released a Stakeholder Survey. This survey was developed by the consultants from the Region 1 Comprehensive Center and the NHDOE Commissioner on behalf of the School Transition Reopening and Redesign Task Force. The survey will be open until May 29, and is soliciting feedback from a number of stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, parents, and wellness personnel.

You may access the survey through this link: STRRT Survey. The more input the Task Force receives, the richer the guidance they will ultimately provide to us. I hope you will participate.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding school reopening in Chester, we would appreciate hearing from you. Should you have specific suggestions, those would also be welcomed. Your input will assist us in developing appropriate local plans for the 2020-21 school year. Please email me your questions and input at lockwoodd@chesteracademy.org.

Warm Regards,

Darrell J. Lockwood, Ed.D.
