Letter ImageDear Families and Staff Members,

We received notification this weekend from a parent that their middle school child had a positive COVID test. The student was last in Chester Academy on Friday, October 9th. We are actively working with and following guidelines from the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). We are following the COVID 19 Exposure Notification procedure. You will find more information on that process here.

NH DHHS has requested we provide contact information for anyone who has been identified as having had close contact (within 6 feet for longer than 10 minutes) with the infected person. We review both in school and transportation contacts. Thankfully, because of our practices and protocols, that number is again believed to be small. We are providing NH DHHS with contact information on 11 individuals (includes adults and children) who may have been close contacts. NH DHHS will contact these individuals or their parent/guardian and will instruct them how to self-quarantine at home. Those families and staff will be directed to get tested and keep themselves or their children quarantined until 14 days following their last possible exposure. A guide for self-quarantine can be found here.

Our telepresence option will be open to children who are required to quarantine. Parents of affected students should contact their child’s teacher directly to arrange for telepresence for their youngster.

The safety of our students, employees and Chester families remains our top priority. In accordance with our protocol, we will continue with our cleaning regiment and will execute a deep clean of the student’s classroom and all the school’s common areas. Chester Academy will open on Tuesday, October 13th, at the normal time.

We will continue to work with NH DHHS officials to identify others, if any, who might have been in close contact with this student. We will provide additional updates to parents and staff if necessary.

We know that children may worry about themselves, their family members and friends getting sick with COVID-19. Tips for talking to children about COVID-19 can be found here.

We appreciate your continued support as we navigate these challenging times. Should you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Principal Lacroix or me. I may be reached at 603-887-3621 ext. 752 or over the holiday weekend by email at lockwoodd@chesteracademy.org.
