Letter from the Superintendent - Oct 15, 2020
Posted on 10/15/2020
LetterDear Chester Academy Families,

As we anticipated, based upon our Reopening Plan, we will be moving from the Adapted In Person Model, to the Hybrid Remote Model due to a rise in the Rockingham County COVID case rate. This change in models will take place beginning tomorrow, Friday, October 16, 2020. Our teachers and staff are working diligently to prepare for this change.

Our Reopening Plan lays out the process for transitioning from one learning model to another on pages 9 and 10 of the plan. Based upon the plan we anticipate being in the Hybrid Remote Model through Friday, December 4, 2020. We will continue to evaluate the COVID conditions per our plan and provide the Chester School Board with an update at their November 4, 2020 meeting. Additional details will be provided in future correspondence regarding the Remote Model days that were previously announced in our school calendar for November 18th through the 24th.

As mentioned in my letter yesterday, the Hybrid Remote model utilizes remote home instruction for all students in grades 1-8. Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten students will continue to attend school in person. Arrangements are being made directly with the parents of a small number of students with specific learning needs to also attend at school. Bus transportation will continue to be available for these students and for our kindergarten students.

All students attending school from home should log into their Google Classroom and view the telepresence schedule for their classroom. That schedule includes times when students should be logging into their classes via Google Meet. All classroom schedules begin with a Morning Meeting tomorrow morning at 8:35 AM. Teachers will have the links to those meetings posted in Google Classroom. All teachers will review the schedule for the day in Morning Meeting and answer questions about the daily schedule.

Does your child still need a Chromebook at home during the Hybrid Model period? Some parents have not yet made this request. We have created a Sign-Out Form for parents, which you will find here. Please note that it may take a couple of days to process new requests. The technology staff appreciates your patience as we work to fill this need.

Are you in need of childcare during this period? The YMCA of Greater Londonderry, which offers the after school program at Chester Academy, also offers a day program at their branch in Londonderry for students to conduct their remote learning with the assistance of YMCA staff members. If interested call (603) 437-9622.

We will continue to update you as more information becomes available. Our food service program will be providing information next week on the opportunity for students to receive school lunch while attending classes from home. The school administration and teachers will be in touch with you regarding any schedule changes that may be necessary due to the model transition.

Working together, we will get through these challenging times. Please do not hesitate to contact us. You can reach me at (lockwoodd@chesteracademy.org) or Principal Lacroix at (lacroixk@chesteracademy.org) if you have any specific questions.
